The images were taken in 2016-2017 on elektrychkas, typical Soviet commuter trains that travel between the Ukrainian capital Kyiv and small provincial towns. Elektrychka is a transportation of the Ukrainian working-class, mostly marginalized passengers and vendors. In the 1990s my family used to ride elektrychksa on a daily basis. I never thought that the train had any significance to me personally until I left Ukraine to live in Canada. These photographs gave a start to my feature documentary Don’t Worry, the Doors Will Open (2019)
